In addition to the hire day, the hire equipment is normally available the day before hire and must be returned preferably the morning after hire. Sundays are invisible and do not normally count. An order collected or delivered on a Friday and returned or uplifted on a Monday is charged as a 1 day hire.
The hirer is responsible for all goods hired and containers supplied from the time the hirer collects, or JBC Caterhire Deliver, to the time the hirer returns, or JBC Collect. The hirer is responsible for the setting out of items from the central point of delivery and similarly collation of equipment from and to the single pre-arranged delivery and collection point at ground level. Where drivers have to deliver or collect to or from dispersed locations an extra charge will be incurred.
A deposit is charged which is refunded less damaged or missing items after the hire has been returned and checked in. The refund is returned using the same method by which payment is made – if the hire is made on line, it is back to the Debit/Credit Card.
All prices are exclusive of VAT or delivery. All catering equipment hire is subject to availability. Special delivery prices apply only when an order is placed on line and at least 4 working days before the hire is required. There is a minimum hire charge of £15 +VAT.
For on-line orders we will contact you after the order has been received and confirm that the hire items are available. At this point we will request payment and this can be made over the telephone by credit/debit card including the security deposit of £50 per £500 value of hire.
You will be sent a confirmation of your order within three days of placing your order. All items are subject to availability and will be confirmed at the time of your confirmation.
For a charge we will wash and clean your hire on return to our premises. Rates can be viewed under the Additional Services Menu.
We deliver to all areas in Scotland including the Islands as appropriate and to the North of England, especially the Newcastle and Durham areas and in the West to Carlisle and Cumbria. Within the four main cities where our depots are located we charge £37 + VAT for a city centre delivery. Otherwise it is calculated on mileage from the nearest depot – see delivery rates.

No, but remember that cutlery/crockery items come in packs of (10) and glassware comes in case quantities (usually 24), however many items can be hired individually.
Always take care in re-packing the equipment.
* Try to put back items in the original boxes.
* Make sure all linen is dry before returning as mildew can quickly set in, especially in warm weather.
* If using candles, try and avoid drips especially from coloured candles as the colour can stain cloths.
* Take care when taking linen from tables to avoid ripping!
* Avoid standing on linen to avoid foot marks that cannot be removed.
It is not unusual for small items to go missing or get broken or lost, such as tea spoons or glasses.
* This should show up if you re-pack your hired items as per the labels on the boxes.
* John Brown Caterhire has robust systems for checking returns after hire.
* The deposit usually more than covers any expected breakages or losses.
We are happy for you to view stock at any of our depots. Glasgow has the largest showroom and customers drop in all the time. Edinburgh and Aberdeen can also normally see customers without appointments. However, it always helps to telephone in advance to ensure the item you want is in store in your nearest depot and not out on hire. In Newcastle we need notice of items other than furniture for viewing and we will then ensure that these available for viewing at a convenient date.
You can amend your order at any time, however try to save your changes and make as few additional telephone calls as possible to avoid mistakes – we will reconfirm your order and ask you to tell us that it is correct. Orders are made up 2/3 days prior to delivery – so it is advisable to have decided on your final “numbers” at least a week before.
We make additional charges on a sliding scale – at the present time if you want hire items for a week, we charge 2 times the daily hire rate for that period. If you are in any doubt – telephone us for a quote.
We can supply simple quotes by email as a pdf file or verbally over the phone. To provide more complex quotes we require details as per the web site checkout page.
